Sponsored Content Policy

PublicReport.uk accepts sponsored content as part of its commercial operations. Sponsored content is material that has been funded or commissioned by a third-party brand, organisation or partner and is published on our site under clear commercial arrangements. All such content is plainly identified as distinct from independent editorial, analysis or news reporting. We use the following labels to signal the commercial nature of the content to readers, depending on the arrangement: “Sponsored by [Brand]”, “Advertisement feature”, “Paid partnership with [Brand]” or “In association with [Brand]”. These labels appear prominently at the top of the page, in the article headline area or in the navigation path, and are never hidden, minimised or obscured.

Rules for sponsored content

Sponsored content on PublicReport.uk always complies with the following rules:

  • Clear labelling – every piece of sponsored content is visibly marked with one of the labels above before a reader begins to consume the material. The label is unambiguous and remains present regardless of how the content is accessed (on site, via social media or in newsletters).
  • No editorial approval by commercial partners – sponsors and commercial partners have no right to approve, pre‑review or influence independent editorial content published on PublicReport.uk. Their involvement is limited to the sponsored material they have funded. At no point may a commercial partner control or shape the editorial decisions of our newsroom.
  • No disguise – sponsored content is never presented as independent journalism, news reporting, analysis or opinion written by our editorial team. It is always clearly separated from our editorial output, both in labelling and in presentation. Sponsored articles may not mimic the look, tone or structure of standard editorial content in a way that could mislead a reader.

How sponsorship differs from affiliate links

Sponsored content is not the same as affiliate links. Affiliate links are embedded within editorial articles or other pages and earn a commission when a reader clicks through and makes a purchase. Sponsored content is a separate commercial arrangement in which a partner pays for the creation and publication of a specific piece of content. For full details of our affiliate disclosure practices, please see our Advertising & Affiliate Disclosure page.

Editorial independence

PublicReport.uk maintains a strict separation between commercial operations and editorial decision‑making. Sponsored content is commissioned, written and produced by a dedicated commercial team or by the sponsoring partner in accordance with our editorial guidelines. Our independent journalists and editors are never involved in the creation of sponsored material, and no commercial relationship influences editorial conclusions, story selection or the tone of our news coverage. For more on how we safeguard independence, see our Editorial Policy and Ownership & Funding page.
