The Cold Weather Payment is £25 for each 7-day period of freezing temperatures (0°C or below) recorded at your local Met Office station. Use the DWP cold weather payment checker (postcode lookup on GOV.UK) to see if your area qualifies and when payments are triggered.

How do I check if I am due a Cold Weather Payment?

The quickest method is the cold weather payment checker on GOV.UK – enter your postcode to see active payments in your postcode district. Alternatively, the DWP cold weather payment postcode checker on the same site shows the status for the current winter (November to March). No separate application is needed; if you receive certain benefits (Pension Credit, Universal Credit, Income Support, etc.) and your area qualifies, the £25 is paid automatically into your usual account.

When will I get my £140 Cold Weather Payment?

There is no single “£140” payment; the £25 is paid per qualifying cold week. If your area experiences seven consecutive days of freezing temperatures, you will receive £25 for that week. The DWP cold weather payment checker will show the date the payment was issued – typically within 14 working days after the cold spell ends. For the full winter, if multiple cold spells occur, you could receive several payments, but each is £25, not a lump sum of £140.

How do I know if I am eligible for Cold Weather Payments?

You must be getting a qualifying benefit (Pension Credit, Income Support, Universal Credit, Jobseeker’s Allowance or Employment and Support Allowance) and live in a postcode area where the Met Office records a cold spell. Check your eligibility using the gov uk cold weather payment page.

When will I get my Cold Weather Payment?

Payment is usually made within 14 working days after the cold spell ends. Use the cold weather payment dwp checker to see the exact date. If you haven’t received it after 14 days, contact the DWP.

What if my postcode doesn’t show a payment on the checker?

No payment means the Met Office has not recorded a qualifying cold spell in your area yet. Check again after a period of very cold weather, or use the 25 cold weather payment postcode checker to confirm your local station’s readings.
