Tip Us

PublicReport.uk relies on the direct contributions of its readers, sources and witnesses to uncover stories that matter. If you have information, a document, or a tip that you believe warrants investigation or coverage, we want to hear from you. Our commitment to editorial independence and factual accuracy depends on the quality of the leads we receive, and we treat every submission with the seriousness it deserves.

What makes a good tip

We are a general digital news publication covering UK news, politics, business, tech, culture and public affairs. The strongest tips are those that serve the public interest. This includes, but is not limited to: political developments that are not yet public, such as policy shifts, internal party disputes or unreported changes in government strategy. Business stories involving market-moving information, corporate governance failures, consumer harm or financial irregularities are of significant interest. Matters of institutional wrongdoing — within government agencies, public bodies, private companies or charities — are at the core of our watchdog function. Data that reveals systematic problems, such as patterns of inequality, regulatory failure or environmental harm, is particularly valuable when it can be independently verified. We also welcome cultural stories with public significance, including untold stories behind arts funding, heritage protection, or the social impact of cultural policy.

How to reach us

We maintain several dedicated email addresses to ensure your tip reaches the right desk. For general story ideas, investigations or documents, please send them directly to tips@publicreport.uk. If your information is time-sensitive — for example, a developing news event or breaking story — forward it immediately to newsdesk@publicreport.uk, where it will be triaged by our editorial team. Press releases and media invites should be directed to press@publicreport.uk. For all other enquiries, our general contact is info@publicreport.uk.

What to include

A clear and concise submission helps us assess your tip quickly. Please include the basic who, what, when and where of the story. If you have documents, emails, recordings, photographs or other materials that support your claim, attach them where possible. You should also indicate whether you wish to communicate on the record, off the record, or on background. On the record means we can publish your name and quote you directly. Off the record means the information cannot be published but can be used to guide our reporting. On background means we can use the information without identifying you. Please state your preference clearly, and it will be respected.

How we verify tips

Every tip is treated with care. Our fact-checking policy is rigorous: the Standards & Fact-Checking desk, led by Naomi Rivers, reviews all submissions that proceed to reporting. We work to corroborate information against multiple independent sources, verify documentation where possible, and test the reliability of any evidence provided. You can read more about our approach in our Sources & Standards guide. We never present rumours as facts. If we cannot independently verify a claim, we will not publish it. Our editorial independence means we follow the evidence, not the agenda.

Confidentiality and your data

We understand that whistleblowers and sources often take personal risk. Protecting your identity is paramount. If you need to discuss legal protections or wish to submit anonymously, you may contact our legal team at legal@publicreport.uk. Your data and identity are handled in accordance with our privacy policy. We will not disclose your information without your explicit consent, unless required by law. For further reassurance, our About Us page and ownership & funding disclosure outline who we are and how we operate.

What happens after submission

We aim to acknowledge receipt of every tip within five working days. Due to the volume of submissions we receive, we cannot guarantee that every tip will become a story, but every submission is logged and reviewed. If we require further information or wish to proceed, a member of the editorial team will contact you using the details you provide. For updates on a submission, you can refer to our contact page. If you believe a published story contains an error, please send a correction request to corrections@publicreport.uk, which is managed under our corrections policy.

Thank you for trusting PublicReport.uk with your information. Your contribution helps hold power to account and keeps the public informed.
