City Ledger Media Ltd. launched PublicReport.uk in 2024 to fill a gap in the British media landscape: a general digital news publication that treats politics, business and culture with equal seriousness, and that reports each with the same rigour and commitment to factual accuracy. Too often, readers find that politics coverage is driven by shallow polling, business reporting is reduced to market tickers, and culture is treated as a soft supplement. We believed there was appetite for a single, accessible publication where a Westminster policy announcement, a corporate earnings report and a long-read on a literary trend could sit alongside one another, each held to the same editorial standards. That belief shaped every decision from the outset.
Our founding mission
PublicReport.uk is a general news publication for readers in the United Kingdom. We cover UK news, politics, business, technology, culture and public affairs through daily reporting, analysis, explainers, opinion pieces and cultural coverage. Our editorial philosophy, under Editor-in-Chief Jonathan Cross, is built on three principles: independence from commercial and political influence, transparency with our audience, and a commitment to verification over speed. Jonathan joined City Ledger Media Ltd. to build a newsroom that could challenge the assumption that rigour and readability are mutually exclusive. Every article we publish must be accurate, fair and sourced – and must add something to the reader’s understanding.
Our desk structure
The newsroom is organised by desk, each led by an experienced journalist with a deep focus on their beat. Our team page lists every editor and their contact details. Victoria Hale, Managing Editor, runs the daily editorial planning, article commissioning and headline review. Marcus Webb, Politics & Public Affairs Editor, oversees coverage of Westminster, Whitehall and government affairs. Claire Davenport, Business & Economy Correspondent, reports on markets, economics, personal finance and industry. David Sinclair, Culture & Features Editor, commissions arts, lifestyle and long-form journalism. Naomi Rivers, Standards & Fact-Checking Lead, reviews every sensitive story and oversees source verification and corrections. This structure allows us to maintain specialist knowledge while ensuring that all desks operate under a single editorial standard.
What readers can expect
We publish every article with a clear byline, so you know who wrote it and can contact them. We attribute sources wherever possible, and we distinguish between reported fact, analysis and opinion. Honest reporting means acknowledging what we do not yet know and correcting mistakes promptly when we do. Our funding model – display advertising, affiliate links, commercial partnerships, newsletter sponsorships and content licensing – is disclosed in full on our ownership and funding page. Sponsored or commercial material is clearly labelled, and affiliate links are flagged. No commercial relationship determines editorial conclusions. Our AI and automation policy explains how digital tools support our workflow, but every piece of published editorial content is reviewed by a human editor. We never fabricate quotes, sources, interviews or bylines.
